About Mariah Birsak

Mariah Birsak is a contemporary Dutch artist based in Amsterdam. Her work explores the tension between architectural space and instinct, between structure and movement. Panthers and leopards appear throughout her paintings as silent presences, moving through interiors that feel both familiar and subtly surreal. Within her practice, these animals symbolize instinct, resilience and quiet strength.

Birsak is drawn to spaces that carry a certain energy. The way light enters a room at the end of the day. The balance between composition and disruption. The precise moment when atmosphere shifts. Her paintings translate these observations into carefully constructed environments where emotion is contained within structure.

With a background in design and illustration, Mariah developed a strong sense of composition, contrast and spatial awareness. Painting became the medium where intuition could expand beyond design principles, allowing movement and instinct to guide the final balance of each work.

Each piece begins with a defined framework. Blocks of color, architectural forms and fragments of memory create the foundation. From there, layers are built deliberately until the composition feels resolved and the space feels alive.
